Heat rolled in waves off his body. She wondered if the erotic
statuary affected him as well. A hand rested lightly at her waist and warm
breath caressed her nape. “Do you think you’ll be able to show this room?”
She would not let Jacob and his juvenile tactics intimidate
her. “I’m sure I’m more capable of showing this room and remaining cool
than you are.” Turning, she raked her hot gaze over her adversary, not
missing a detail. His usually immaculate black hair was
ruffled as if by nervous hands and his dark eyes were overly bright.
His golden skin held just a trace of a flush. He’d folded his jacket over
his arm and his tie was a little askew. When her eyes traveled below his
belt, she had proof of her claim. Jacob’s immaculately tailored pants
bulged with obvious arousal. Hugely blatant arousal. Without a doubt, the
statuary had gotten under his skin.
Sarah wanted to gloat, but by now her mouth was so dry
she could only gulp. She licked her lips and the action was
met with a hiss of released breath and a twitch of the
aforementioned bulge.
She jerked her head up to meet Jacob’s blazing black
gaze.
“Lorenzo? Where is Lorenzo?” Sarah all but gasped.
“On his cell. The reception wasn’t good in here so he stepped
outside. You didn’t hear it ring, or him excuse himself?” One dark brow
cocked in question.
She blinked. “When did it ring?”
“About the time your eyes locked on my cock.”
Sarah sucked in a deep breath as her eyes widened.
“W-what?” she managed to choke out the word.
“Are you going to deny you were undressing me with your
eyes?”
Sarah looked away from him and immediately regretted it
as her eyes locked on a fascinating work of art. “I did no such thing. I
just wanted to see if you were affected—”
“You wanted to see if I was as turned on by you as you
are by me.”
“You arrogant…ass. I’m not turned on by you!” Sarah lied
through her teeth. She was turned on every time
she encountered him.
His arm snaked around her waist and tugged her close.
“Really?”
She inhaled his musky scent and a shiver of awareness
traveled her spine. Biting the inside of her lip, she struggled to control
her reaction. “I’m not affected by you.” She only wished her voice sounded
as confident as she pretended to be.
“Then why do you run every time I come near you? Why do
you compete with me as if your life depended on it?”
Sarah raised her chin, looking him in the eye. “I’m not
running now.”
